Bye Bye babies:(

So the story continues. Carl come by yesterday and the momma raccoon was still in the chimney. He put 4 ammonia drenched sponges down and came back today. To his amazment the momma was still there. So he got a chimney sweeper and scared her out and then he extracted the babies.

I can't believe Carl does this for a job. This is baby number one.
Carl wanted to put the babies in a garbage bag. That made me so sad to just throw the babies in a bag so I got a basket to put them in.
We got 4 out and he thought he was done, but he heard a baby crying. So he stuck is hand up and found a 5th baby.
They are so cute. They are like little puppies or kittens. Canyon wanted to hold the babies so bad.
I am sad to know that I assisted in the end of life for theses babies.
They are off to the animal shelter to be euthanized.

Is it a bird, a plane?....

Today I heard the birds chirping in my chimney. So I thought to myself that I wanted to get a picture of the baby birds before they flew away. So I got my camera and knelt down and opened the damper or flue. I saw some fur. I thought that is not fur it must be feathers so I opened it again to my suprise I saw a raccoons beady, black eyes staring down at me. I sure was surprised. Those birds are not birds at all they are raccoons. I slammed the damper closed and screamed and giggled and ran around the house like I saw a mouse under my feet. Oh how I wish it were just a mouse. This sure explains my post last week about the birds not sounding like birds. So I called an exterminator and this is the picture he took looking down my chimney at the raccoon.

He is investigating how many raccoons are in there. He came to the conclusion about 3-4 babies and the momma.

To get the momma raccoon out he soaked sponges with ammonia and put them in the chimney. It usually takes a few hours for the mom to abandon her babies and get out of the gas chamber.

But to his surprise the momma came right out.

And she ran down our second chimney. So now she is in the downstairs chimney and the babies are in the upstairs chimney.

So we must wait for the momma to come out and he can catch her. Then he will get the babies. He can't risk getting the babies out now in fear that they will cry and the momma will come and attack him. So this story is to be continued....

Mothers day weekend

This weekend John and I were able to spend some much needed family time together. We took Canyon to the park. Canyon is so big. He is going down the slide by himself.
Canyon not wanting his picture taken. At this point I probably shot at least 20 pictures.
Sure he'll smile with dad!!
Canyon loves the swing. He loves to bend over the swing and see the world at a different angle, upside down.
Canyon new favorite food is blueberries. He is so cute with his blue beard. He ate a huge bowl at this sitting. John and I were talking about how we wondered if blueberries have the same effect as prunes. Well..... they do! Canyon had success and it also stained his little bum blue. Maybe we will need to limit the blueberry intake.
Mothers Day Pictures. Me and my little person.
cousins: Hadley and Canyon. They are a month apart. Canyon has Hadley beat by 2 pounds.

Got to GO!!

The baby birds have got to go. They need to spread their wings and fly far away. Each morning I wake up to birds chirping but it isn't pretty like a spring morning. It sounds like cats fighting. The momma bird brings food to them every morning and the birds are starving and fight over the food. It is not a pretty sound at all. Please little birds spread your wings a fly, you can do it, I know you can.

This video is cute. Babies have the most amazing, bright, noisy, light up toys but they insist on having a boring, gray/black telephone. I don't understand what is so fascinating about my phone.
