A trip to the ED

Yesterday I couldn't deny that Bridger needed to be seen at PCMC emergency department. After 5 days of fevers with a temperature hitting at a scorching high of 102.7. I took him in. Blood, urine, boogers and a chest x-ray were taken. He was given a bolus of IV fluids. He began to perk up a little but then he spiked another temperature. We were then transfered to the rapid treatment unit for observation. They didn't want to send him home until the temperatures were under control and he began to drink better. Evenutally some of the lab work came back. He has Adenovirus. A common virus that invades the respiratory tract and the GI tract. It causes babies to have fevers, to be congested and have diarrhea. Because of the congestion Bridger was not drinking and became dehydrated, so that is why he got the fluid bolus. After 12 hours of sitting, sucking out boogers and him getting IV fluids he started to drink a little. He was not drinking enough to go home, he only drank 4 oz the whole day, but the doctor knows me and knows that I know what to do for a sick baby so she sent us home. I am so thankful for my knowledge and experience but it is so different when it is your own baby. I was sad, stressed and scared, but once we got to the hospital all my fevers went away and the nurse in me came out. I was composed.

Now we are home and Bridger is getting better. John gave him a blessing. He has had a low grade temp but nothing bad. He is drinking but it needs to be in a bottle. So I am pumping and feeding. Not the most convenient but anything to keep him hydrated. Hopefully soon he and Canyon will be 100% again. (Canyon has it too but not as bad).
